Sketchbook Work Pt.6

Been in a bit of a creative slump today, so no progress has been made on my photoshop work I am afraid. I did however crack open the sketchbook and do some doodling, if I could explain what the above image is I would but it's just a totally random sketch! If anyone wants to throw any of these sketches into photoshop and mess around with them please feel free, I am never going to do much with them. Till next time.

Nezha

It's been a little bust today in my little artistic corner of the world. Yesterday I stumbled across a fantastic artist called "Trent" who creates a fantastic graphic novel called "Twilight Monk", I was so inspired by his work that I jumped straight onto photoshop and started creating my own graphic novel style character. Above you can see early designs and the full body line art, the line art still has a loooong way to go in the form of hatching and colours but so far I am really happy with him. Till next time.

P.s check out the "Twilight monk" website, it's brilliant - http://www.twilightmonk.com/category/news/

Bubblegum Pogo Stick!

Been a bit quiet this week, mainly due to being ill for half of it but I am back doodling away. Above is my latest creation, hugely inspired by "sunset overdrive" which is coming out for the xbox one later this year. I love their over the top zany weapon design and the general aesthetic of the game, so I wanted to create something similar. Thus was born the bubblegum pogo stick! Colours will go on soon but rest assured it's going to be the brightest boldest piece I have done to date, prepare your sunglasses. Till next time.

Neji and Kankuro - Beginnings

Just a quick update tonight to show you guys what I am working on, I am thoroughly enjoying making the naruto fan arts at the moment so I thought while I have the momentum and energy for this project I may as well carry on. I am beginning to put a little bit of my own flair on these pieces though, for example on neji I have added subtle changes, mainly in the form of his facial anatomy, wrist bandages and the chakra emitting from his hands.

Kankuro is is the really early sketch phase, not sure what I plan on changing at the moment, thinking of maybe changing his puppet to the sasori puppet but keeping the pose because I think it looks pretty darn cool! Till next time.

Kisame Finished!

I am back to the digital paintings and managed to finish up my kisame painting tonight. There are bits on it that I am not super happy with but I felt like I was spending to much time on the piece itself, so I concentrated on getting the main details done, that would be the main focal point of the image. Overall I am really happy with how it all turned out, especially the water effects! I think I nailed the lighting on water and on the whole piece itself, beginning to get a lot more comfortable with using shadow to create form. Hope you guys like it and if you have any suggestions of what I should paint next, juts give me a shout. Till next time.

Sketchbook Work Pt.5

Sketched out a more full body design for "iron jaw" from yesterday. Some ideas I like, such as the tattoos and mechanical arm but the other stuff needs retooling I think. Had a nightmare with the proportions on this guy, which was a bit frustrating! Might do the next sketch of him in photoshop, so I can tweak him a little easier. Till next time.

Sketchbook Work Pt.4

Some late night sketching, it's been a while since I have designed anything, I have been doing a lot of fan art lately, as you can tell. Trying to create a bruiser type character with some serious attitude, I imagine him being a "heavy" enemy type in a game, did a lot of head designs tonight, so I plan on finishing up the rest of him tomorrow. Till next time.

Kisame W.I.P

So the line art that I said I was going to paint never got touched today but on the plus side I have started a new painting! You will have probably noticed by now that I am useless at sticking to what I say. This next painting is another piece of naruto fan art (I do apologise if you don't like naruto and you frequent my blog!). Kisame is my second favourite character behind gaara, there is just something very cool about a shark swordsman. I want to really empathise his naturally affinity for water so after all the shading and blending is done I am going to make it look like he is drenched in water, hopefully it turns out like the image I have in my head. Till next time.

Tau FireBlade Line Art

Not the fully finished painting I said I would do but I thought I would show the basic line art for my next project, after doing two "manga" style paintings I wanted to take a break and do something a bit more sci-fi/fantasy. If you know your 40k you will recognise this guy as a tau fireblade, going to start painting it tomorrow, so will probably throw a W.I.P up soon. Till next time.

Gaara Finished!

So I am finally back after a week without updates, my bad I know! Gotten around to finishing my gaara fan art, it's been a tough learning curve on this one but I feel like I am beginning to get a grasp on shading, brush control, etc etc. Hoping to start and finish another painting tonight, so if you guys are lucky you might get two updates today! Till next time.

Gaara More W.I.P

Thought I would post a quick update on Gaara before I go to bed. All the skin is pretty much done now so I have spent the past few hours working away on his sand armour, really pleased with how he has turning out at the moment! What I learnt from the orochimaru black and white study is really paying of with this, I feel that I have a better grasp on light and shadow now, yey! It also helps that I am thoroughly enjoying painting one of my favourite naruto characters, till next time.

Gaara - Very early W.I.P

Not a huge update but charting my progress through a painting really helps me see if I am improving, so that's the reason for the minimal paint on canvas, ( that and the nose was giving me a right headache ). Hopefully you guys don't mind. My idea of doing a real life person went out of the window but my excuse is I am doing a full colour painting this time................so its technically pushing my limits! Till next time.

Orochimaru Finished!

Classifying this as finished as it was never meant to be a long project. Overall I am really happy with it, what with it being my first black and white tonal painting and my first painting that doesn't have any sketch work in it. All of it was blocking in a refining with paint, like I said in previous post going to attempt a real person next. Till next time.
